Alongside the Environmental Policy the University has adopted a Transportation Policy which describes how the University envisages the future of transportation affeirs at the institution as part of environmental protection.

Classification of waste

At the University of Akureyri waste is sorted as follows:

  1. Paper and smooth cardboard
  2. Deposit packaging such as bottles (glass and plastic)
  3. Plastic
  4. Milk cartons and paper cups
  5. General household waste
  6. Organic household waste

Staff and students are kindly asked to sort their waste at the sorting stations which have been placed at several locations in the University's corridors. Each station is clearly marked so there should be no doubt about what to put in each container. Paper can also be put in cardboard boxes close to photocopiers and printers in the University buildings. Corrugated cardboard and cardboard boxes for paper can be left at the sorting stations.
