Institutes on Arctic issues
There are a number of institutions related to Arctic issues in Akureyri. The Icelandic Arctic Cooperation Network (Norðurslóðanet Íslands) was established in early 2013 as part of a strategy for Eyjafjörður region that Eyþing regional association, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Science and Culture and the Ministry for the Environment and Natural Resources have prepared in cooperation with numerous parties connected to Arctic issues in Akureyri. The main purpose of the Icelandic Arctic Cooperation Network is to increase visibility and understanding of Arctic issues and operations of parties working on Arctic issues in Iceland. The Director of the Network, Embla Eir Oddsdóttir, has for many years worked on projects and studies relating to the Arctic.
