Fisheries Science

B.S. program in Fisheries Science provides an inter-disciplinary basis that is useful for working with management or for further study. The programme features basic courses in business and applied science subjects.
Special courses in the program focus on marine ecology, fishery and processing of fish, marine science and aquaculture.

Emphasis is placed on collaboration with companies in the field and institutes conducting research in marine and fishery science. Students that wish to specialize in aquaculture can do so through our cooperation with Holar University.

The aim of the study is to provide students with a sound basis of knowledge for work in marine and fisheries industry or aquaculture on completion of studies while also providing a broad foundation for further study.

School Electives

Electives are taught, if the criteria of minimum participation allow. Normally the criterion calls for the registration of 10 students in each course. The number of elective courses offered each semester is limited. Students can take general courses at the University of Akureyri or other Icelandic universities as electives. Such an option is, however, subject to the approval of the dean of School in each instance.
