The University of Akureyri Student Counselling Service is principally intended to operate 3 complimentary objectives:
- To assist current and prospective students at the University in choosing courses of study.
- To provide individuals and groups with counseling and guidance during their studies especially concerning improvements in study skills and techniques.
- To offer comprehensive personal counseling and advice to students concerning both their studies and private life.
The Student Counseling Service places emphasis on providing services suitable to the needs of individuals and/or groups.
The office hours of the Student Counselor are from 8:00-16:00 Monday through Friday.
The office of the Student Counselor is situated in the K-hall, on the ground floor.
The walk-in hours of the Student Counseling Service are Monday through Friday from 13:30 to 14:30 during the academic school year.

The Student Counselor at the University of Akureyri is Solveig Hrafnsdóttir, M.Sc. in Counseling and Psychotherapy. The Student Counselor is fluent in Icelandic, Norwegian and English.
If you have questions concerning your stay at the University of Akureyri, please do not hesitate to contact the Student Counselor, whether it concerns the progress of your studies, registration, study skills or personal matters. The Student Counselor can either assist you at the office or refer you to other professionals.
The Student Counselor assists and guides foreign students at the University of Akureyri, especially concerning choices of courses and personal counseling. The Student Counselor has knowledge of inter-cultural counseling.
