Students With Disabilities and/or Students With Special Needs
The Student Counselor supervises administrative measures to assist students with disabilities and students with special needs, for the purpose of encouraging them and supporting them in their studies, and to ensure that such students enjoy equal opportunities.
Services for students with disabilities are performed in close co-operation with these students themselves and therefore remedial measures focus on the individual. This approach is designed to ensure that the service rendered is adjusted to the needs of those requiring it on a case by case basis. This service is prescribed by law in Iceland and it should be noted that the University of Akureyri has a specific policy relating to the issue of equal rights to study and work. The most common issues that the Student Counselor encounters in this category are dyslexia, exam anxiety and various psychological and physical disabilities and impairments.
