Kennaradeild

The Faculty of Education offers a five-year programme towards an M.Ed.-degree, in accordance with Act of Law nr. 87/2008 regarding the education and hiring of teachers at preschool level, primary and secondary school level, and high school level. The first part of this five-year programme consists of a three-year programme towards a B.Ed. degree, totalling 180 ECTS. The latter part is a two-year programme towards an M.Ed. degree, totalling 120 ECTS (first matriculation in 2012). Upon completion of this programme students can apply for a teacher certificate to the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture.

In the academic year 2010-2011 students who already hold a bachelor degree or higher can enter a study programme which, upon completion, enables them to apply for a post-graduate teacher certificate. Students must complete either 30 or 60 ECTS, depending e.g. on their previous education and teaching experience. This programme is in accordance with Act of Law nr. 241/2009. Students must apply for their teacher certificate to the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture no later than 1 July 2011.

In the academic year 2010-2011 there will be no admission to the two-year study programme towards a post-graduate teacher certificate, nor to the bachelor level programme towards a teacher certificate. Further information on teacher certification can be found in Acts of Law nr. 87/2008, nr. 241/2009 and nr. 872/2009.

A one-year 60 ECTS programme towards the degree of Dipl.Ed. is on offer and this also makes up the first year of masters level studies. A two-year programme towards an M.Ed. degree in Education is also on offer for students who already hold a bachelor degree or equivalent as well as a teacher certificate. Furthermore, students can enter a two-year 120 ECTS research-based programme towards an M.A. degree in Education.
