Special Rules

Handing in of Assignments
A meeting of the faculty of education has adopted the following resolution because of the handing in of assignments:
Teachers are to specify all assignments, to be accomplished by students, in teaching plans at the beginning of each semester following a consultation meeting to be held well in advance of the inception of the pertinent semester. The teaching plans are to reflect the weight of the assignments in terms of grades, the final date for handing in the assignments and information as to when the teacher expects to return the reviewed assignments. Students are obliged to hand in all the assignments specified in this manner in the syllabus.

In studies organized on the basis of 30 ECTS per semester, student grades for assignments handed in late will be lowered by 0.5 for each work day that has begun (in terms of 8:15 a.m. unless otherwise specified) and passes after the final due date. In studies organized on the basis of fewer than 30 ECTS per semester student grades will be lowered by 0.5 for every two work days that have begun after the final due date. (This sentence applies to studies in the programme of study relating to teaching on the secondary school level and distance learning in the programme of study for primary school teaching.) Exemptions shall not be granted to this rule, unless there are urgent reasons for doing so and then only after consultation with the head of the department involved.

Rules pertaining to Field Studies in the Primary and Lower Secondary School Department

Prior to commencing the course VEN0155 the student is required to have completed all first year courses and at least 50 ECTS of the second year, as the years of study are organized in the course book for day school, including GSK0353. The student is to have obtained these results prior to the end of the spring semester before the field study commences. These preliminary requirements indicate that students, who intend to participate in the field study referred to, are not entitled to take the August examinations of that same year in order to satisfy the above mentioned requirements.

A meeting of the faculty of education has made the following resolution because of field study in the primary and lower secondary school department: Field study and practice teaching of third year students in the department will be conducted in primary schools in northern Iceland. If a student wants to go outside the region, he will be defraying the costs thereof himself. The will of the faculty is for student teachers to be able to do field studies in a school with few students.

A student who does not meet the minimum requirements of field work (VEN0155) or teaching practice (ÆFK0157) is required to repeat the course in question. Each course can be repeated only once and this shall be done at a venue different to the one at which the course was originally taken.

Rules pertaining to Field Study in the Pre-school Department

For LSK1010 Field Study in the Pre-school Department:
Prior to commencing the course LSK0510 the student is required to have completed all first year courses and at least 50 ECTS of the second year, as the years of study are organized in the day school course book, including LSK0555 Field Work and DST0153 Educational Leadership.

A student who does not meet the minimum requirements of field study VEN0555 and VEN0510 is required to repeat the course in question. Each course can be repeated only once and this shall be done at a venue different to the one at which the course was originally taken.

Electives in the Primary and Lower Secondary School Department

Students at the primary and lower secondary school department are entitled to take any courses within the faculty of education and have them evaluated as elective subjects in the elective areas of the relevant programme of study. Students also have the opportunity to choose courses in other UA faculties with the approval of the study committee/Head of the department and obtain approval of them as electives. When such decisions are at hand they automatically have the force of precedent until decided otherwise.
