Distance Learning Structure
Teaching and actual communication time in distance learning is normally spent in video recorded tele-conferences. Most of the courses have their own home sites in Blackboard. There students have access to study material from the instructers, equipment for communication, work on projects and taking examinations. There is also a growing practice of video recording teaching in day school which is then relayed to students via Blackboard.

Cooperative Partners Throughout the Country
Major emphasis is placed on building study groups at the locations offering distance learning. This leads to the forming of a study community where students receive support and encouragement from one another. From the beginning the University has enjoyed good cooperation with educational and continuing education centres in many parts of the country. Students there are offered study services with work facilities and internet connections, access to video recording and tele-conference equipment and conditions enabling them to take examinations. In most instances final examinations are taken at educational and continuing education centres.

Primary Cooperative Partners are:

  • Farskólinn- Centre of continuing education in the Northwest District
  • Háskólasetur Vestfjarða - University Centre of Vestfirðir
  • Þekkingarnet Austurlands - Knowledge Network of Austurland
  • Fræðslunet Suðurlands - Educational Network of Suðurland
  • Þekkingarsetur Þingeyinga, FræÞing, - Þingeyinga Education Centre
  • Miðstöð símenntunar á Suðurnesjum - Centre of Continuing Education of Suðurnes
  • Námsflokkar Hafnarfjarðar - Study Groups of Hafnarfjörður

Other Bits of Advice

  • Study structures vary depending on the school concerned and prospective students are requested to familiarise themselves thoroughly with the structure of studies in the programmes they plan to register in.
  • Distance learning students pay the same registration fees as other students at the University but they are always required to pay moderate facility charges to the appropriate education or continuing education centre.
  • More detailed information about studies and study structures are to be found on the School's home page, in the catalogue of courses and from the Office Manager concerned.
