Women's Health – Programme for Midwives

Master's programme (120 ECTS)

In this study programme, students will gain deeper knowledge and obtain specialisation in the field of women's health in Iceland and internationally. The programme will benefit individuals in their job and empower them to deal with the various challenges that await professionals in services for women. As midwives have finished two years of university education after their BS degree in nursing, that is evaluated as 70 credits so they just have to take 50 credits of the 120 credit Master's programme.

Individual students set goals for themselves within the programme and choose courses that best lays the basis for their research in the field of health care.  The Academic title is Master of Health Sciences with a focus on Women's Health. Sigfríður Inga Karlsdóttir, Associate Professor, is the Department Head of this study programme. She assists students in goal setting and identifying courses that best build the foundation for their Master’s thesis.

This 120 ECTS Master's degree programme is divided into 20 ECTS of coursework and 30 ECTS for the Master's thesis.

In this study programme three courses are compulsory, a total of 50 ECTS.

EIR0155  Qualitative Research  10 ECTS
MER0110  Quantitative Research   10 ECTS
MPR0130  Master’s Thesis    30 ECTS
