Admission requirement

Completion of a matriculation examination (stúdentspróf) is normally an admission requirement.
An exemption to the rule, pertaining to the requirement of completion of a matriculation examination, can be made and the applicant is then expected to satisfy the following conditions. Each application is evaluated individually:

  • Minimum age is 25 years.
  • 5 years of work experience in the areas of health or social services, in terms of at least 80% of a full time position on average
  • 90 credits in secondary school, whereof:
    9 credits in English
    12 credits in Icelandic
    6 credits in mathematics
    6 credits in a Nordic language
  • computer skills

In nursing studies there also applies the special rule that practical nurses, who are 25 years of age or older and have a minimum of 5 years of work experience as practical nurses, are entitled to admission to the UA nursing programme.
Students are required to be able to read texts in English and the Nordic languages while they also need to have good preparation in biology, chemistry and mathematics.
