Completion of a matriculation examination (stúdentspróf) is normally an admission requirement.
An exemption to the rule, pertaining to the requirement of completion of a matriculation examination, can be made and the applicant is then expected to satisfy the following conditions. Each application is evaluated individually:
- Minimum age is 25 years.
- 5 years of work experience in the areas of health or social services, in terms of at least 80% of a full time position on average
- 90 credits in secondary school, whereof:
9 credits in English
12 credits in Icelandic
6 credits in mathematics
6 credits in a Nordic language - computer skills
Students are required to be proficient in reading English and the Nordic languages. The studies apply both to applied sciences and the social sciences and therefore preparation is important in biology and mathematics as well as in sociology, psychology and pedagogy.
