The University of Akureyri Library has via the Internet direct access to various databases and e-journal collections in the main subjects taught at the university. Many of them are accessible via the Icelandic Consortium to electronic databases and e-journals. Databases and e-journal collections refer i.a. to periodical articles, books, book chapters, conference documents and doctoral dissertations. Increasingly there are also links to full-text articles that only function, if the library has access to the periodicals on a countrywide basis or through special subscriptions of the library.
Access to the University of Akureyri Local Network via VPN
University of Akureyri staff and students can connect to the university local network through VPN (Virtual Private Network). By connecting to VPN users can access special subscriptions of the library, i.e. electronic resources (databases and e-journals) that are only accessible through the university local network.
All staff and students automatically receive access to the VPN. They use the same username and password as for their HA webmail to logon/connect to the VPN network. However it is necessary to create the VPN connection on each device one is using. In order to use the special library subscriptions/resources one has to logon the VPN and logout when one is finished.
