The educational material department is designed to serve equally both students and instructors of the Faculty of Education at the University of Akureyri and primary and pre-school teachers in the Northeast District. The book collection is also open to all those wanting to make use of the material there. The educational material department is part of the university library and the office hours are the same as those of the library.
The collection is diverse, i.a. Icelandic textbooks, foreign textbooks, academic journals in the fields of pedagogy and teaching, handbooks, teaching programs, audiobooks, video recordings and periodicals. Handbooks, teaching programs and periodicals are not available on a loan basis.
The collection contractually receives copies of all the material published by The National Centre for Educational Materials (NCEM), such as books, video recordings, audiobooks, teaching programs, educational games and teaching instructions. Most of the study material published by NCEM are exhibited and available on a loan term basis.
The educational material collection offers various services and offers i.a. meetings and seminars over the winter months and curriculum presentations for teachers and students. The educational material collection also arranges for exhibitions of various kinds.
Teachers are encouraged to visit and familiarise themselves with the activities offered. Groups and individuals receive special guidance, if they give advance notice of their arrival.
