An inter-library loan service (ILL) refers to practices where librarians provide publications not in possession of the library, either by means of copies of periodical articles or books, from other libraries, domestic or foreign. Great emphasis is placed on rapid ILL service at the University of Akureyri Library.
Holders of valid library cards are entitled to use this service but it should be pointed out that it is provided against payment. Users are expected to determine themselves whether the work is to be found in Gegnir before sending a ILL request.
Users of ILL are advised to register in Gegnir (by ID and password) by login in to My Account on the front page of Gegnir. There users can view their status within each library-group, e.g. North Iceland. To order inter-library loan click on the Request ILL button and fill out the appropriate form. In My Account users can check on the status of their orders. See further a discussion on requests.
Please search thoroughly in the Gegnir and electronic resources before requesting an inter-library loan.
Staff members of the University of Akureyri are not charged for ILL but students pay half the amount of the fee for photo copies and book loans.
