The University has been constantly developing and evolving for almost a quarter of a century and its foundations are strong. It provides a progressive but stable environment for students and teachers. Students and staff are active participants in the daily operation of the University. Representatives of students and staff have seats on almost all councils and committees of the University, and the central management of the University is in regular contact with student and staff organizations to discuss their various issues.

The University of Akureyri and its employees consider it their aim to create a world where students can feel comfortable in a personable environment which fosters their creativity. Teaching usually takes place in relatively small groups, providing good service for every student. We make sure that students have good access to their teachers, so that they can work together to facilitate the student‘s education and solve potential problems. Feedback from graduates is a testimony to the quality of a university's work. Graduates of the University of Akureyri speak of it positively and are happy with the education and experience they have acquired.

Akureyri is a university town where students have a role to play an in the town life. Distances are small and local services are therefore always nearby. The University of Akureyri is located on an attractive campus in the heart of Akureyri. Buses are free of charge, interest and participation in sports is high and sports facilities are good. Winter sports facilities are first class with a skating rink and a skiing area just a few minutes' drive away. Cultural life is thriving, in particular theatre, concerts, and other creative arts. Student accommodation is located in three areas in Akureyri and students also rent private flats in various parts of the town.

Choosing a university is an important decision in every student‘s life, and the University of Akureyri offers its students a unique opportunity to be active participants in the creation of knowledge in a number of different areas.
