Study Aims and Advice to Students
The aim of business studies is to educate students for administrative roles in industry as well as to prepare them for graduate study and research in the field of business administration.
University of Akureyri business graduates are in demand since they are qualified to undertake administrative work in most sectors of Icelandic industry and Icelandic society.
Organisation
Studies in business are based on a three year programme. Students are required to complete 60 ECTS annually, or a total of 180 ECTS in the three year programme leading to the degree of B.Sc. in Business Administration. The programme offers two specialised major paths of study i.e. finance, marketing and administration. A total of 23 courses (138 ECTS) constitute a common core of basic studies for administration and marketing and administration and finance. Three (18 ECTS) specialised courses are included in each path of study, 2 elective courses (12 ECTS) and a final dissertation (12 ECTS) comprising a total of 180 ECTS. Further information regarding individual courses is provided at the beginning of each semester, including treatment of the subject of study, class schedules, required reading material and final course grading.
Rule on Study Progress
In order to commence studies in the third year, a student must have completed a minimum of 90 ECTS.
