| Will to know - Life and work of sixteen women This book comprises a collection of essays by sixteen Icelandic women. All are PhD graduates from universities outside Iceland and work at the University of Iceland, University of Akureyri, or the Iceland University of Education. The authors have dedicated their career to research and teaching. The main theme of this book centres on the academic fields on which the women have concentrated their lives work, how their interest in these respective fields was initially awoken, and how their personal life stories and experience have influenced their professional choices. The authors also give an insight into the ideological development that has occurred within their academic fields and how this has been reflected in their lives, academic work and research. As the women reflect on their personal and professional stories a picture emerges of why they chose to embark on a long period of academic study, many in their adult years, and what were the main influences behind this decision. All were in active search for knowledge and the realisation of their own thoughts and work as academics and teachers. The editor of the book is Dr. Kristín Aðalsteinsdóttir.
