Icelandic university degrees correspond to Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral/PhD degrees. All the schools at the University of Akureyri offer Bachelor's and Master's degree.
The University of Akureyri uses the ECTS credit system. ECTS credits indicate the values allocated to the course units to describe the student workload required to complete them. They express a
relative value, where 60 credits represent the workload of a year study, usually 30 credits for each of two semesters. As said 60 ECTS credits represent one year of study (in terms of workload). 1
credit = 25-30 hours = 1 week´s work.

As a general rule grades at UNAK are expressed on the scale 1 - 10, where the passing grade is 5 and above. Course grades are given in increments of 0.5. Grade averages are computed to two
decimal places. 5.00 - 5.99 are Third Class, 6.00 - 7.24
are Second Class, 7.25 - 8.99 are First Class and 9.00 - 10.00 are First Class with Distinction.
