Thursday 11th of March at 12:00 Hjálmar Stefán Brynjólfsson will give a lecture on semantic rules in Þorsteinn Gylfason's Thinking in Icelandic. The lecture takes
place in room L102 Solborg.
The lecture draws upon Hjálmar S. Brynjólfsson's BA thesis in Modern Studies, entitled "Rules are there to be broken, c'est vrai". In his thesis, amongst other things, he tackles
Þorsteinn Gylfason's use of the concept of rule, as this is discussed in the book entitled Thinking in Icelandic. In this work, Gylfason stresses the normative and binding nature of rules,
whilst presenting his understanding of semantic rules. In his context, Brynjólfsson points out an alternate view on rules, thereby objecting to Gylfason's conception of semantic rules.
Hjálmar Stefán Brynjólfsson is an ML student at the University of Akureyri. He finished a BA degree in law in 2006, his dissertation then was on postmodern jurisprudence.
