New EU members: post-transition states of Eastern Europe
The guest lecture will introduce students to the transition processes in the post-communist countries of Eastern Europe. The empahsis is put to present the economic and social adjustments related to the process of negotiaitng membership agreements with the European Community in the late 1990s and early years after 2000. The seminar will involve three important aspects, concentrating on economic, political nad social spheres of the transition period.
Guest lecturer doctor Marcin Kowalczyk comes from University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland. He is a graduate of Warsaw School of Economics, with major in international economic and political relations. He also holds M.A. diplomas from University of Warsaw: Faculty of Journalism and Political Science (major journalism, specialization media marketing and public relations) and American Studies Center (major American studies, specialization American politics). Marcin Kowalczyk has been awarded doctoral title with distinction, from the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science at the University of Warsaw in 2008. During the present academic year he is on visiting scholarship to the University of Akureyri, funded through EFTA grant. His present research concentrates on the area of e-governance and civil society-based democracy.
